History

Our history

With more than a 100 years of experience, KOLLER solutions has started by gaining a fast insight into all aspects of drilling needs. The following emphasis on more diverse mechanical engineering has lead to a general know-how of a variety of industries. Today KOLLER builds machines for the geothermal and water drilling industries, underground cavern storage facilities as well as road construction industry.

1912

After the invention of the combustion engine at the end of the 19th century, the global demand for crude oil increased dramatically. At the same time, commercial exploitation of the deposits in Germany’s largest oil producing region began in Wietze near Celle. Here, the young entrepreneur Ferdinand Koller established drilling operations in the autumn of 1912. This marked the birth of the Koller company.

1921

Koller quickly realized that a continuous supply of parts was essential for uninterrupted drilling operations. In 1921 he acquired a fitter’s shop in Celle and began focusing on the needs of the drilling industry. It was this fitter’s shop that finally became Koller Maschinen- und Anlagenbau GmbH.

After the 2nd World War, the founder’s son began placing increasing emphasis on mechanical engineering. The drilling business was abandoned in 1959. However, the experience and the know-how gathered over many years were retained. Even today, Koller continue to provide workover equipment and services to European clients.

1967

The machine factory produced components for oil and gas companies based in and around Celle and general mechanical engineering was also offered. By the mid-sixties, the cramped premises in Celle‘s old town could no longer keep up with the order volume. And by the end of the decade, the company had moved into newly built production facilities, which are still the headquarters of KOLLER Maschinen- und Anlagenbau GmbH today.

Since then, the company has expanded continuously. In order to cope with the fluctuating demand within the oil industry, new business fields are entered. This includes the construction of machines for the geothermal and water drilling industries, underground cavern storage facilities and road construction industry. The road construction products are sold successfully under their own brand name.

2008

Since 2008, Koller has been a member of the MB Holding Company LLC in Oman. The transformation from a regional engineering company to a global provider of high-quality technology for the oil and gas industry began with the takeover by this globally active group.

Koller celebrated its 100 years anniversary in 2012 together with employees, partners and the community to honor its long and successful history and the continuity of quality service throughout the century.
Today together with our partners and clients we ensure that the success story of Koller Maschinen- und Anlagenbau GmbH continues even after more than 100 years.
